Diploma work

⬥ Important and thought provoking!

⬥ The commitment of my restoration work can be summed up with the following quote:

" Art is never finished, only abandoned."

( Leonardo da Vinci )

" I have been impressed with the urgency of doing. Knowing is not enough we must apply. Being willing is not enough; we must do. "

( Leonardo da Vinci )

▸ Restoring of antique objects - the Venetian mirror

During the art chosen for my diploma work, I got to know and fell in love with the wonderful world of Venetian glass mirrors, therefore, during my career as a restorer, I consciously began to undertake the restoration and reconstruction of antique Venetian mirrors:

RESTORING OF ANTIQUE OBJECTS

• VENETIAN MIRROR •

Murano style mirror with glass decoration

Mirrors made at the world famous workshops of Murano, in Venice, the centre of glass production. Antique glass mirrors decorated with coloured or plain glass ornaments, micromosaic or both, that have been damaged, wooden frame and silver or gold paint is worn out or broken. Plan for reconstruction is needed, because decoration is dirty, broken, needs completing with missing parts, coloured glass needs retouching and restoration.

"The theoretical and practical questions of the supplement of the works of art and his reconstruction."

ICOM recommendation:

( contraction )

"The reconstruction and completion of a work of art one of the most controversial part of the restoration process. The research of this area may affect the whole of the restoration process from the stage of stabilising the work of art physicly to the stage of interpreting it , and making it an aesthetic experience. The amendment in professional reconstruction should always be authentic and can be removable. The substances and materials and paints used should be lasting, the reversible, the compatible, and meet the requirements of making additional restoration possible... The size of the supplement may reach as far as the full reconstruction through neutral retouches to absolutely no addition. Finding of the correct extent of the completion is primarily a professional and ethic restorer question..."

Because of this fact there is very important to keep in view the followings
( ICOM views ).

[ The Internacional Counsil Of Museums ]

⬥ To keep the original technological methods. ( when you make complete archaeological finds or antique objects, it must be deduced and mustn't cover original pieces but must be fit in the original shape although using some methods it can be shown, such as the same material like the original one! ). Accepting these respects, then document the process of the work.
